This stone circle is a local legend. The stones in the outer circle are the daughters of the larger centre stone, Meg.

A one day annual event, always held on the second Saturday in May at Melmerby. A young village girl is chosen each year to be the May Queen. She is paraded through the village on horseback to the green where traditional dancing around a may-pole takes place.
This marked the northern frontier of the Roman Empire and is now a World Heritage site.
England's highest narrow gauge railway. Ride along the River South Tyne valley on part of the old trackbed of the Haltwhistle to Alston branch line, closed by British Rail in 1976. The trains are hauled by preserved steam and diesel engines. The round trip from Alston's restored Victorian station lasts approximately 45 minutes. The station is just north of the town centre has a picnic area and refreshments.
